Recent Events

Plant Tour of GE April 23rd
 SME Chapter 082 and the ASME Carolinas Section enjoyed a tour of GE’s Electrical Distribution facility in Mebane, NC on Thursday, April 23, 2009. Hosted by Mark Kormanec and Tom Walker, this event was an excellent opportunity to learn more about GE’s power distribution products and to discuss the challenges of implementing lean manufacturing techniques into a facility that manufactures custom (requisition engineered) products.

 

GE’s Mebane plant is part of GE’s Consumer and Industrial Division.  The facility has three primary product lines:  medium voltage switchgear, low voltage switchgear, and switchboards.

The plant participates in GE’s 1-30-30 plan, which is a three-pronged commitment to reduce absolute greenhouse gas emissions (1% by 2012 as compared to 2004 levels),  reduce the intensity of the emissions (30% by 2008), and improve energy efficiency (30% by 2012).
